Pakistan

Since 2002, the United States, through the Departments of Defense, State, USAID, and others, has provided $18 billion dollars in security, law enforcement, economic, and developmental assistance to the Pakistani government to enhance its ability to combat terrorism, counter insurgents, address violent extremism, and for humanitarian relief. Key challenges include the following:

• The United States and Pakistan need to continue comprehensive efforts to address active insurgent and extremist groups and the terrorist safe haven in Pakistan's FATA that remains a threat to the United States and others parts of the world.
